An interview with Jesus about driving pt. 4 (1, 2, 3, 4)
HWJD: "Last few are stay straight, be polite and stay calm."
Jesus: "Stay straight. Easy enough. Do not drive under the influence of anything. Drugs and alcohol are the obvious offenders but there are others. Improper use of medication for example, whether it is to much or not enough, or, the right amount mixed with something you shouldn't mix it with. I know of this family who were rear-ended at a stop light by a truck going high-speed whose driver zoned out because he didn't take his diabetes medicine."
HWJD: "Straight forward enough. Last two, be polite and stay calm."
Jesus: I'll group these two together because they kind of go hand in hand. Be polite, let people pass or merge in front of you, don't tailgate or honk needlessly, keep your low beams on etc... If you get angry because people are doing 'things' to you, you better not be doing them to other people. Treat other drivers like you want to be treated.
HWJD: "And what about staying calm."
Jesus: "If you stay calm you are more apt to be polite. What do you think is better, cussing out someone who is trying to get around you or keeping your calm, and letting them pass? Staying calm and being polite keeps your stress level down and helps the drivers around you keep theirs down too. You are being nice to them and they may be more likely to be nice to the next guy."
HWJD: "That's all great information but there is a lot. Most of it is common sense but how do you keep it fresh in your head for those times you really need it?
Jesus: (smiles) "This is going to sound a little self-absorbed but I use a memory aid, 'HELP ME JESUS.' It covers the stuff we have talked about in a concise list."
HWJD: How'd you come up with that?"
Jesus: "Well, it started out as 'HELP ME ME' but I thought that was really self-absorbed and I couldn't come up with anything for the second M."
HWJD: "Well, we are just about out of time. Would you mind hanging out for a bit after the show so we can jot down your memory aid and post it for our readers?"
Jesus: "Not at all, I'd love to share. It's helped me out a few times."
HWJD: "Great. Well, thanks again for your time and the excellent information."
Jesus: "Anytime, I enjoyed it."
